BLP has successfully completed their latest healthcare project at Austin Health, Austin Hospital Campus in Heidelberg, Melbourne. BLP secured the scheme following the completion of a Strategic Masterplan which identified the Emergency Department (ED) to expand their Short Stay Observation Unit (SSOU) as the top priority to address the rapid demand and growth in ED presentations at the Austin Hospital Campus.
The project saw BLP undertake the design and delivery of a new Short Stay Unit which was built above the ambulance bay to optimise real estate on the very constrained site. The department includes an additional 20 beds for paediatric and short stay observation patients as well as four beds allocated for the Psychiatric Assessment and Planning Unit. The expansion has greatly enhanced the Emergency Department’s capacity allowing for reduced wait times, the ability to receive more patients and more effective management of patients who require a degree of extended monitoring and treatment.
Mark Mitchell, BLP Director, said:
This complex and logistically challenging project has been a triumph of careful planning and considerate execution.
“This is a major investment by Austin Health that will see high quality health services continue to be delivered in the hospital and in the community and is a key statement of the Austin Health’s commitment to excellence in patient care and advanced treatment.”
