A sympathetic building design that perfectly fits in with the existing streetscape
Arising from the Federal government’s economic stimulus package, the Nation Building provides an integrated learning and accommodation service for homeless and disadvantaged young people aged 16-25 committed to engaging in study or work. The mix of one and two bedroom self-contained units (which accommodate up to 15 young people from the local area at any one time) are in a concise L-shaped plan and combine to create discreet two storey buildings.
The sheltered outdoor areas, gable roofs and timber cladding have all been designed to fit the local streetscape and contribute to a sense of ‘homeliness’. The development includes balconies and shared gardens, plus office spaces. The six-star energy rated development was designed with a combination of active and passive features to reduce water and energy consumption.
