New South Wales Hospital redevelopment with extensive ambulatory, aged care and rehabilitation facilities.
As part of the $251m overall redevelopment, BLP delivered a new Ambulatory Care Centre offering enhanced health services, including medical oncology, day stay, haematology, antenatal, diabetes and respiratory clinics, as well as pulmonary rehabilitation and podiatry services.
The space underneath the wings of the hospital building built over the ridge of a hill was identified as the optimal site for the new facilities. Because of it’s location, the space was severely underutilised, and largely used for storage of broken equipment and unused staff toilets. BLP’s refurbishment maximised the footprint of the limited area, creating the flexibility to allow a full range of services to be delivered efficiently and effectively in a limited area with multiple users, in a transformed light filled indoor space. Covered areas allow patients to convalesce and walk around in inclement weather.
BLP rationalised the staging, allowing the hospital to remain functional during construction.
