A warm, welcoming environment with contemporary aesthetics that provides an inviting place to live
We undertook interior design services for Yallambee Aged Care, an existing 95-bed facility in Traralgon.
The interior design sought to create a beautiful, home-like environment that acknowledges its local surroundings. The palette was inspired by warm country colours with photographic imagery provided by the Traralgon Historical Society featured throughout.
“A home away from home” is positively reinforced through a variety of spacious areas that allow residents and their families to live, interact and visit in pleasant surroundings. Natural elements, such as indoor plants and wooden finishes add warmth to a space by bringing nature indoors.
To aid wayfinding, lounges are separated into distinct themes including the red telephone lounge, the green post box lounge, the “under the clocks” lounge and a fireplace library and lounge. Corridors are also distinguished with differing artwork and large scale photographs such as the commemoration of the 1954 Royal Tour of Australia when the Queen visited Traralgon.
Bedrooms are a quiet step away from the shared activity spaces, with simple wall joinery designed and situated opposite the bed to house personal items. In the ensuites, vanity storage is placed at a safe accessible height and displays just a few personal items – reducing the clutter and decision making for a dementia friendly environment.
