The use of timber is an important contributor to the high design quality of both the projects. Orygen’s colonnade-arbour’s grandeur design is achieved by the use of engineered timber. Glulam was selected in lieu of solid hardwood timber because of its ability to span larger distances, allowing the design to extend vertically across 2 storeys, emulating a majestic array of timber sculptures in likeness of trees with less support connections. Whilst, for the BLP Studio in Melbourne, BLP’s own interior designers, architects and thought leaders created a contemporary palette with details in black steel and timber. Largely neutral foundations for designers to play freely with textures and finishes.
